14/10/23 : Mens Veterans (Bees) vs Winchester Wizards

Away - King's School, Winchester

Lost 5 - 6

Almost but not quite!!

A difficult week selection wise with illness and non-availability having an impact.  Started the match with a bare XI against a strong & youthful Winchester team, over the last few years games have always been decided by the odd goal and this one was no different.

With some careful approach play Havcant took the lead through Glyn but unfortunately it proved to be short lived and Winchester had a couple of quick breaks to take a 2-1 lead and.  Glyn had a great effort hit the bar but unfortunately the rebound couldn't be put away.

Help arrived at half time and we went up to 12 which meant we could give people a few minutes breather.  Despit that the score went to 4 - 1 early in the half but this actually spurred Havant on and with goals from Gooba and Glyn inroads were made only to see more chances at the Havant end which were taken.

For the final 15 minutes Havant were in the ascendency and continued to move the ball well and deny Winchetser the abaility to clear their lines.  Glyn secured his hat trick and Jed scored his first goal for the team to make it all to play for at 5 - 6.  Kevin was making regular inroads into their D and slid the ball across only to see a deflection from Gooba pass agonisingly past the post.  And that's how it ended.

To come that close against a strong team, last year's champions, with a small squad was very much a Band of Brothers moment.
